Setting Up a Home AltarHOW TO SET UP A HOME ALTAR
To set up a home altar, choose a dedicated, clutter-free space, cover the surface with a cloth, and add meaningful items like religious objects, photos, or symbols representing the four elements (earth, wind, water, fire). Finally, create a nearby seating area and use the altar for prayer, meditation, or reflection, treating the space with reverence and regularity.

Easy Steps to Enthronement
1 CHOOSE A SUNDAY for the enthronement ceremony and to
attend Mass together.
2 SELECT A SACRED HEART IMAGE or use the image on the
last page of this booklet and invite your priest to bless the image.
3 ESTABLISH A PROMINENT PLACE in your home where
you will display the image. Consider placing pictures of family
members and friends near the image.
4 PREPARE YOUR HEARTS beginning three days prior to the
enthronement. Recite the prayers on the following pages.
5 ENTHRONEMENT SUNDAY Gather together and place Jesus
on the throne of authority in your home.

Enthronement
Jesus promised St. Margaret Mary Alacoque that He “will bless the home in which the image of my Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honored.” When we enthrone (display) the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in a prominent place and signify that Jesus is the King, friend and brother of the family, we are responding to the invitation of the Church to make our homes “Domestic Churches”, wherein Jesus is the center and source of love for all. As the sanctuary church lamp reminds us of Christ’s presence in the tabernacle, the enthroned image of the Sacred Heart reminds us that Jesus is among us and with us. By this covenant we make our homes and hearts His tabernacle.
We also consecrate ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary who always leads us to her Son. This is the reason why our Blessed Mother should be part of your home life. Through her Immaculate Heart, she leads you to the Sacred Heart of her Son, and He in turn will lead you to the Eucharist where He is truly present, and thus will make of your home not only a house of prayer but indeed, a Marian and Eucharistic shrine. If you do your best, Jesus and His mother will do the rest!

Consecrating the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
In June 2026, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Parishes around the country are encouraged to join the bishops in consecrating our nation to the Sacred Heart in June.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus:
You know the longings of our hearts, and you desire that we enjoy friendship with you.
From your pierced side, you have poured out the wellspring of life, for which we thirst.
Your heart burns with a love for all people to return to a right relationship with you.
We celebrate the abundant gifts you have given this nation, founded on the self-evident truths that our Creator has endowed all people with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We make reparation for the offenses against you and against human dignity that have taken place in this nation.
May our hearts be united to yours, so that our families and communities enjoy peace and happiness; may broken relationships be reconciled, injustices repaired, and the wounds of our land be healed.

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore You, I love You, and with a lively sorrow for my sins, I offer You this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to Your will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in You and for You. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.

Dear Sacred Heart of Jesus,
We renew our pledge of love and loyalty to You. Keep us always close to Your loving Heart and to the most Immaculate Heart of Your Mother. May we love one another more each day, forgiving each other’s faults as You forgave us our sins. CONTINUE PRAYING as a family and develop a personal prayer life. Spending 10 to 15 minutes alone with Our Lord.
REGULARLY GO TO CONFESSION, as this sacrament will give us the grace to forgive others, to ask for their forgiveness when appropriate, and to transform our hearts in the Heart of Christ.
PERFORM ACTS OF KINDNESS AND SERVICE for your family members and for those outside your home.
