Servers assist the priest and deacon during the Mass by holding the book, holding candles next to the ambo during the reading of the Gospel, assisting with the preparation of the altar, receiving the gifts, washing of Father's hands, and the ringing of the bells. For the entrance and recessional processions, a server carries the processional cross. For special services during the year, especially Holy Week, there are specific responsibilities that are outlined and reviewed with those who are serving.
