St. Joe's is operating a cold weather shelter at two local hotels during the winter months on days with extreme cold. The cold weather shelter is intended to supplement the needs that exceed the current capacity of the community during extreme weather, which is 10 degrees or colder. Those seeking shelter are being provided with a room, which allows them to be able to shower and rest in a safe environment.
There are 10 businesses and faith communities that are helping to feed these homeless people. Sacred Heart is one of the faith communities that is helping to feed these people.
For the various communities that have volunteered to serve food, St. Joe's will send out a sign-up genius for the days that Pillars deems to be in excess of 10 degrees or colder to the various communities that have volunteered to serve food so they can select the day or days that they want to provide the food. The Sacred Heart Coordinator will pick the date from the Sign Up Genius and then reach out to whom ever from Sacred Heart has graciously offered to help in some capacity.
Obviously, because we can't give any specific times or dates, you will be contacted and no pressure if you cannot help on the date that is chosen. It is just good to have a pool of names to reach out to. Thank you to those who have already voiced an interest in helping. The various roles that need to be filled are shopping, preparing, bagging and delivery.

As you all know, the weather is starting to warm up so there may not be a need any more this year, but this is an ongoing social situation that will be picked up again, once we have cold weather.
If you are interested in helping support the shelter with donations, please stop by the office or place in the collection during weekend Masses.
St. Joe's has many opportunities to help with the homeless besides the food assistance. If you are interested in helping in a different capacity, here is a document listing the other needs.
